Grupo Antolin and SDG Fund partner to promote the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

  • The agreement includes the use of Coretech, a recycled product from car overhead manufacturing, in infrastructure construction and refurbishment for social purposes.
  • Grupo Antolin has been a member of the UN Global Compact.

Grupo Antolin and the SDG Fund have signed a partnership agreement to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It includes working together on volunteer programs as well as participation in infrastructure construction projects.

Both parties have agreed to explore the incorporation of Coretech for using it in infrastructures like training centers, public housing, temporary shelters and for other uses, which means a major step forward in using sustainable materials.

Coretech is produced by Grupo Antolin by recycling wasted materials used for making car overheads. The Burgos-based firm is world leader in this product and is present in one of every four vehicles worldwide. Each year it produces more than 20 million units.

Coretech stems from Grupo Antolin’s concern about the ecological impact of its business operations which led it to investigate possible uses of waste from the manufacture of roof trims. This technology has been in use since 2005, mainly in construction due to its acoustic and insulating properties. Coretech is produced in the company’s facility in Ágreda (Soria).

The agreement was ratified by Paloma Durán, Director of the SDG Fund, and Emma Antolín, Corporate Social Responsibility Director and a member of Grupo Antolin’s Board of Directors. At the signing ceremony, Emma Antolín promised to bring to the project the factors that have made the company so successful: its capacity for innovation, internationalization, and the human excellence of its people. “This agreement is another step forward in the implementation of the company’s CSR strategy and a sign of its commitment to sustainable development,” she commented.

For its part, Paloma Durán, reports that “for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals it is necessary to establish new forms of collaboration between private and public sector. Because of its innovation, this agreement has a strong potential for using a pointer technology and putting it to the service of who need it the most at a reduced cost”.

Origin of the agreement

This agreement is the result of building the global Agenda into Grupo Antolin’s responsible business strategy through the convergence of the Agenda’s 17 goals and 169 targets and the plans and measures in the company’s project lines. The relationship between the ODS Fund and Grupo Antolin is founded on principles and values in which each party will contribute its knowledge, skills, and experience to reach different countries in order to implement goal 17 “Partnerships for the goals”.

Grupo Antolin has been a member of the Global Compact as a founding partner and signatory since the formation of the Global Compact Network Spain in 2004. By joining this initiative Grupo Antolin announced its commitment to sustainability by building it into the company’s business strategy. Over the past thirteen years it has enhanced and deepened the alignment of its Corporate Social Responsibility policy with the United Nation’s Blueprint for Corporate Sustainability Leadership. This is reflected in the advanced level recognition awarded by the Global Compact to Grupo Antolin’s Communication on Progress for five consecutive years, turning it into one of the only three companies in the automotive industry worldwide to obtain this recognition.
